Minecraft server without port forwarding

Run your Minecraft Java server on your own PC or home server. Friends join with an address like survival.voidport.net, no router settings, no static IP.

What a Minecraft server needs

Minecraft Java Edition uses one TCP port, 25565 by default (server-port in server.properties).

Online in three steps

  1. Choose a plan

    Sign in with Google and pick a plan. See plans.

    New accounts: free for 7 days with a payment method on file, then €3/month. Trial limits: 1 tunnel, 2 GB.

    1. Install the CLI

      $ curl -fsSL https://dl.voidport.app/install.sh | sh

      x64 and ARM64. Works on Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, Arch and most others (not Alpine).

  2. Log in and start the tunnel

    $ voidport login
    $ voidport tunnel --preset minecraft-java --address survival

    The CLI shows the address, for example nbg1.voidport.net:30421. With --address survival players can also join with survival.voidport.net, without a port.

Good to know

Address without port

Minecraft Java looks up an SRV record before it connects, so a name like survival.voidport.net is enough. Names are first come, first served. It also works with your own domain. See Minecraft without a port.

Real player IPs

Without extra setup your server sees the relay as the source of every connection. Start the tunnel with --proxy-protocol and enable PROXY protocol on the server, and it sees the real player IPs (tested with Paper: proxies.proxy-protocol: true). Velocity (haproxy-protocol = true) and BungeeCord (proxy_protocol: true) have the same setting. Vanilla and Spigot can't read it, so leave it off there. See PROXY protocol.

Server in Docker

Running itzg/minecraft-server? The VoidPort container can run next to it in the same Compose file. See Docker.

Questions

Do my friends need VoidPort?

No. Only the machine with the server runs the VoidPort CLI. Players use the normal Minecraft client and your address.

Does it work with Paper, Fabric or Forge?

The tunnel forwards the Minecraft connection unchanged, so it doesn't depend on the server software or mods. We tested Vanilla and Paper.

How many players can join?

As many as your server handles, up to the concurrent connections of your plan: 10 on Gamer, 50 on Pro, 500 on Hosting. Each player is one connection.

Can Bedrock players join?

This guide covers Java Edition. Bedrock uses different ports and protocols and doesn't look up SRV records, so Bedrock players always need the address with the port.
